Summary

The clock is ticking - and President Jack Ryan is running out of time。。。

A US Navy Commander is attacked while having dinner with his wife by an unidentified Russian man。

A CIA operative travelling on a Canadian passport is intercepted and interrogated at Tehran Airport。

A team of FBI officers are arrested by Indonesian police for travelling under fake passports in Jakarta。

These apparently unrelated incidents point to a compromise in US government security, and Jack Ryan and his team must find out where it is coming from。 From Maryland to Macedonia, they frantically battle shadowy forces who are looking to drag the US president into a ground war with ISIS。

3。75 stars。 This was my first Mark Greaney penned Tom Clancy book。 He did a good job picking up the pace as the older Clancy (Jack Ryan universe) books began to get too bogged down and unnecessarily long / drawn out。 Greaney picked up the pace and does a good。 He kind of ran out of steam with the ending but I'm interested in his other Clancy / Ryan novels now。 3。75 stars。 This was my first Mark Greaney penned Tom Clancy book。 He did a good job picking up the pace as the older Clancy (Jack Ryan universe) books began to get too bogged down and unnecessarily long / drawn out。 Greaney picked up the pace and does a good。 He kind of ran out of steam with the ending but I'm interested in his other Clancy / Ryan novels now。 。。。more

I have read Red October and the Cardinal of the Kremlin and I really liked the mix between action and thriller。 Honestly these books which have not been written by Tom Clancy are more action and less thriller which for me, at least, isn't really interesting。 I have read Red October and the Cardinal of the Kremlin and I really liked the mix between action and thriller。 Honestly these books which have not been written by Tom Clancy are more action and less thriller which for me, at least, isn't really interesting。 。。。more

This is back to the highest standard by Mark Geaney, and Scot Bricks narration was better (IMHO) thn previous。 It still had the detail you expect but the plot and the execution were so much better, with more back story of the "family2 we have grown to love and understand。 This is back to the highest standard by Mark Geaney, and Scot Bricks narration was better (IMHO) thn previous。 It still had the detail you expect but the plot and the execution were so much better, with more back story of the "family2 we have grown to love and understand。 。。。more

Excellent read regarding what type of secret operations happen in the Middle East。 The lengths they go to kill or capture ISIS terrorists who plot to bring destruction to the USA。

To first begin。。 it’s quite an accomplishment to finish a 700+ novel, let alone finishing it in under 3 weeks of a busy a schedule/period。 Netflix wouldn’t be happy。That’s said, Let’s just say thrilled。。 and hopefully many readers would see this type of story as simply for sake of entertainment。

I have said it before and now I will say it again, Mark Greaney gets Tom Clancy。 This entry into the series is yet another solid tale set in the Jack Ryan universe, although truth to be told, this is much more a Jack Ryan Jr。 story。 There are more bad guys here than you can throw a stick at。 There are plots within plots and schemes within schemes, and while they are looking for different outcomes, they all involve sticking it to the good old U。 S。 of A。To start with, there is a citizen of Saudi I have said it before and now I will say it again, Mark Greaney gets Tom Clancy。 This entry into the series is yet another solid tale set in the Jack Ryan universe, although truth to be told, this is much more a Jack Ryan Jr。 story。 There are more bad guys here than you can throw a stick at。 There are plots within plots and schemes within schemes, and while they are looking for different outcomes, they all involve sticking it to the good old U。 S。 of A。To start with, there is a citizen of Saudi Arabia, who is a very talented trouble maker for anyone who is not a citizen of Saudi Arabia。 He happens across a Romanian sociopathic social engineer who can give him the goods on any number of American citizens who have security clearances。 This works well for the Saudi as he wants to pass this information along to another piece of work who just happens to be a golden boy recruiter for ISIS。 What could go wrong? Of course when people start dying it is up to President Ryan and his assets to determine who is responsible for this mess and shut them down。 A task far easier said then done。 With a broad cast of characters, a ticking clock, and no clue where to start or what to do this is a page turner that will keep you up to the wee hours。 I should mention, this is the last Clancy novel Greaney has written。 It appears the gauntlet was passed over。 I hope I am wrong and can later amend my statement as Mark does an outstanding job and is an author worthy of merit。 。。。more

In the tradition of Tom Clancy, I really enjoyed this thriller。 A well thought-out plot complemented nicely by technical details and back story made it highly entertaining。

I’ve read a lot of Clancy books in fact everyone of his original series before he passed away。 The series had lost most the glamour from the early novels even when he was writing the plots。 He aged out his heroes, Jack Ryan and John Clark, and moved Ryan up the political ladder to president along some preposterous plots。 Ryan is President and his son is in a clandestine service。 John Clark is nearly 70 and Ding is of retirement age also。 Ian Fleming never felt the need to move James Bond into th I’ve read a lot of Clancy books in fact everyone of his original series before he passed away。 The series had lost most the glamour from the early novels even when he was writing the plots。 He aged out his heroes, Jack Ryan and John Clark, and moved Ryan up the political ladder to president along some preposterous plots。 Ryan is President and his son is in a clandestine service。 John Clark is nearly 70 and Ding is of retirement age also。 Ian Fleming never felt the need to move James Bond into the prime minister’s role。 This series should be put to rest but the Clancy heirs must be very greedy。 They licensed out the Clancy characters to at least four authors。 Mark greaney is the best and this book was enjoyable。 Greaney has the Gray Man series and probably could have adopted his plot to other characters, chasing a dirt bag Romanian electronic wizard con man selling devious secrets to ISIS。 The book is quite long—who really needs a 700 page thrill novel, like watching a four hour movie。 。。。more

This book in the Jack Ryan series/universe tells a complete story, but like all the books in that series, it is part of an ongoing saga。 If you don't know it yet, this series, presumably set in our own world, has, over the period of the decades during which it has been written, created a different political history than what has actually happened。 There have been many epic historically fictional events affecting both the US and other nations of the world like China and Japan。 Many of those event This book in the Jack Ryan series/universe tells a complete story, but like all the books in that series, it is part of an ongoing saga。 If you don't know it yet, this series, presumably set in our own world, has, over the period of the decades during which it has been written, created a different political history than what has actually happened。 There have been many epic historically fictional events affecting both the US and other nations of the world like China and Japan。 Many of those events have been disastrous but not as disastrous as they could have been without Jack Ryan and the Campus。 To put it more briefly, this series makes more sense if read in order。 However, this book, perhaps as much or more than others around it, seems to depend less on the others。 Obviously, Jack is President and has a history。 Most, if not all of the details you need to know are given to you in this book, and without a huge info dump。I was happy with most of this book because unlike so many contemporary books in this century, it lacks heavy sadism。 There is plenty of hate and violence and ruthless brutal murders, but not the torture and intentional infliction of personal agony that leaves a sour taste in my mouth。It is a decent page turner, but it has a lot of holes。 If you can ignore them, it is quite enjoyable。 We get plenty of action and drama。 We get personal heroism, both by regular characters and by some characters who appear here only briefly。 We also get personal tragedy and dedicated villains。One of the more glaring incidental holes takes place toward the end with a huge disaster in which high ranking law enforcement people act like total idiots and the writer ignores obvious procedure, notably communication with headquarters。There is also a more ongoing hole that I will call a social or cultural hole。 After 911, on of the more distressing reactions of what I will call the American mob was blatant persecution of Muslims and people of Middle Eastern descent。 Perhaps the author is trying to avoid appearing racist or perhaps he is just ashamed that so many Americans act so disgracefully。 Nevertheless, he almost completely ignores the mob aspect of this which would certainly follow events even more pervasive than 911。 He touches on it with the reaction of reporters, but doesn't really describe mob action。 Then there is the systemic strategic hole。 The author tries hard to skirt the issue, but the problem is this。 How do you narrow millions of candidates down to pick the ones that are strategic until you have looked at the details which have to be weeded through to identify them? Unless you know that a particular person is doing something related to ISIS, how do you get their name to start doing research in the first place except possibly by trial and error。 That's a lot of trial and error。 Then there is the woman who is attacked at a party late in the book and tackles someone a few times。 Not only is it awfully convenient that she is in a place available to attack instead of where she usually is, but does she even need security clearance (the original data gateway) for her day job?Like I said, holes。 You have to ignore them。 Once you do, it's a fairly good read。Mature themes: no sex is described。 There isn't even much of the usual innuendo。 But there is plenty of war and terrorist violence including some pretty gory situations。 。。。more

A great story with a very contrived, disappointing ending。 It describes how the bad guys can exploit a data breach to target key military and intelligence personnel。 How the bad guys use this information and how the good guys follow their trail makes up the heart of this very interesting read。 But all the methodical preparation that goes into the characters’ actions throughout the book seems to be thrown out the window in a contrived ending。

A very detailed, engaging and enjoyable read。 Mark Greaney is my favorite author of the post-Tom Clancy story line, he is extremely talented and similar in his writing style as the late Mr。 Tom Clancy。
